Delete your Gente account
You can delete your Gente account and its data at any time. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. This page explains how to do it and exactly what happens to your data.
How to delete your account
1. From inside the app (fastest)
- Open Gente and go to the Profile tab.
- Tap the settings icon (top right).
- Scroll to Account Actions and tap Delete account.
- Confirm on the sheet that appears. The sheet will name any commitments you created that will transfer to another member or close.
2. By email, if you no longer have access to the app
- Write to gentemain1+support@gmail.com from the email address on your account.
- Include the subject line “Delete my account” and your Gente username if you remember it.
- We will verify ownership of the email and delete the account within 30 days. You will receive a confirmation email when it is done.
What gets permanently deleted
- Your login (email, password, phone number). You will not be able to sign back in with the same email; the email is freed for reuse
- Your profile photo, bio, and username (the username is released so someone else can claim it)
- Your posts on the feed, your comments (including on other people’s posts), and your reactions
- Your reminders, notifications, friend connections, and any skills you had earned
What is kept (and why)
Some data is kept, but de-identified: your name is replaced with “Deleted user” and your profile is no longer browsable, searchable, or clickable. It appears only as attribution on the items below.
- Your check-ins, streaks, and trophies inside commitments you shared with other people.
The reason: Gente is built around commitments people do together. Your check-ins are part of the group’s shared history. Erasing them would rewrite other members’ leaderboards, streaks, and trophies: achievements they earned alongside you. Our governing rule is “deletion removes the person, never the shared past.”
If you were the only member of a commitment (a personal commitment with no one else in it), all of that data is deleted along with your account.
What happens to commitments you created
| Commitment type | What happens |
|---|---|
| Personal (just you) | Deleted along with your account. |
| Group (multiple friends) | Ownership transfers to the oldest active member. Everyone keeps their history and can keep going. |
| Battle (1-on-1) | Counted as a forfeit. Your opponent wins the season and receives their trophy. The battle is then closed. |
| Community (creator + followers) | The community is closed: current season ends, no new seasons, no new check-ins. Followers keep every trophy and streak they earned. |
When it happens
Deletion is immediate when you confirm from inside the app. There is no soft-delete or recovery window. Once you tap Delete, the account is gone and cannot be restored. Email requests are processed within 30 days.
